HANESBRANDS INC. HISPANIC LEADERSHIP AWARD

2016 HANESBRANDS INC. HISPANIC LEADERSHIP AWARD

RECIPIENT IS REVEREND FRANCIS RIVERS MEZA

It is with great pride and pleasure that the Hispanic League in coordination with Hanesbrands, Inc., presents this prestigious award to Reverend Francis Rivers Meza. Francis is a collaborator, a passionate advocate and invaluable voice for the Hispanic/Latino community. Born in Mexico City he moved to the United States with his parents when he was two years old, growing up in the Carolinas. While in high school and an undergraduate student at Duke University, Francis became involved in migrant farmworker ministry. This interest in migration issues led him to Italy, to collaborate with the Federation of Italian Protestant Churches and the European Council of Churches on migration issues affecting southern Europe. Francis is an ordained Minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA) and a member of Salem Presbytery. As the Supervisor of Clinical Pastoral Education in the FaithHealth Division of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center he provides compassionate spiritual care to the sick, injured and dying and coordinates pastoral care outreach to Spanish-speaking patients and families. Actively involved with the broader community he dedicates time with El Buen Pastor, Hospice & Palliative CareCenter, Building Integrated Communities and the Hispanic League to name only a few. Since August 2014, Francis has co-chaired a working group and leadership team to bring the FaithAction Community ID program to Forsyth County. More than 600 people have attended the ID Drives at South East Plaza supported by community partners (Winston-Salem Police Department, Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Forsyth County Health Department, Hispanic League and Love Out Loud.) He hopes to develop an initiative of the FaithHealth Division to focus on the health and well-being of Hispanic/Latino men. As an active community leader sharing his passion for his culture and making a personal commitment to improve the lives of Hispanic/Latinos he is most deserving of this award.
